Brief Report: School Outreach Program on Ending Child Early and Forced Marriage and Domestic Servitude

Objective:

To raise awareness among students, youth, and community leaders on ending child early and forced marriage and domestic servitude, while empowering young individuals through skill acquisition for economic independence and sustainable development.

Executive Summary:

On November 8, 2024, the African Faith and Justice Network (AFJN) Youth Advocates, in collaboration with DOVENET, conducted a school outreach program at Community Secondary School, Noyo Aliki in Ikwo LGA, Ebonyi State. The program addressed the critical issues of child early and forced marriage and domestic servitude, equipping participants with knowledge on prevention and reporting mechanisms.

Additionally, skill training sessions were held on liquid soap, air freshener, Izal, and Dettol production, enhancing the economic empowerment of students below 18 years. The outreach engaged 304 participants (198 males and 106 females), including school principals, teachers, and community leaders, who pledged their commitment to combating these issues in their communities. This outreach marks a significant step in empowering young people and fostering community collaboration to end harmful practices and promote economic stability in Ebonyi State communities.
