The Africa Faith and Justice Network (AFJN-Nigeria), Enugu State Chapter, in partnership with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Enugu Zonal Command, successfully organized a One-Day Capacity Building Training on Community Monitoring Systems (CMS), Safeguarding, and Social Norms Transformation on 5th June 2026 at Ndeabor Community, Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The training forms part of AFJN-Nigeria's ongoing efforts to establish sustainable community-led mechanisms for preventing child early marriage, domestic servitude, and other forms of child exploitation.
The event brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including the Traditional Ruler of Ndeabor Community, Cabinet Members, Village Heads, Women and Youth Leaders, Town Union Executives, Religious Sisters, representatives of NAPTIP, AFJN Enugu State Chapter, AFJN Ebonyi State Chapter, and other community influencers.
Speaking during the opening session, the AFJN National Deputy Coordinator, Rev. Sr. Teresa Chinwe Anyibuike, emphasized the importance of community ownership in protecting vulnerable children and addressing the root causes of child exploitation.
Throughout the training, participants engaged in discussions on the causes and consequences of child early marriage and domestic servitude, child protection laws, safeguarding principles, ethical engagement, referral pathways, and community monitoring mechanisms. Facilitators highlighted the important role of traditional institutions, faith communities, and local stakeholders in identifying risks, supporting survivors, and promoting positive social change.
One of the key outcomes of the training was the community’s commitment to adopt and strengthen Community Monitoring Systems (CMS) as a practical tool for monitoring, reporting, and responding to child protection concerns. Participants also developed community action points aimed at addressing harmful cultural norms and strengthening collaboration with government agencies and civil society organizations.
The Traditional Ruler and community leaders expressed appreciation to AFJN-Nigeria and NAPTIP for the timely intervention and pledged their support toward protecting children and promoting community development.
The training marks another important milestone in AFJN-Nigeria’s mission to empower communities, strengthen safeguarding systems, and build a future where every child can live free from exploitation, abuse, and harmful practices.
AFJN-Nigeria remains committed to working with communities, faith institutions, government agencies, and development partners to advance child protection, justice, and human dignity across Nigeria.
